A draw fairly reflected disjointed performances from both sides as two teams struggling for form and confidence fought out a poor encounter at New Douglas Park.
Two goals within a minute of the second-half restart promised some entertainment that the players were ultimately unable to deliver.
Hope for Hamilton came when Mark Corcoran was put through on goal by Ryan Blackadder in the 46th minute.
Corcoran who had worked hard upfront steadied himself before slipping the ball pass Allan McGregor in the St Johnstone goal.
However, before the home players had regained their composure St Johnstone's had levelled in bizarre fashion. Mark Baxter's cross from the right was hit in hope but deceived everyone to drop into the Hamilton net.
Accies had other chances, notably when Brian McPhee's header forced a desperate McGregor save with his feet, but a win would have been ill-deserved.
St Johnstone were well served by Stephen McConalogue in attack, while Paul Sheerin and Ryan McCann created first-half chances.
Michael Moore enraged the home fans in the first half, appearing the feign injuries when he had clashed with Todd Lumsden. It would perhaps have been an unjust reward had Moore capped his display with a goal.
However a point each would suit both managers when serious questions remain about their division one ambitions.
