There was little in this game to cheer up the 2,026 hardy souls who had escaped Christmas shopping duties.
That was until Paul Sheerin blasted Saints into the lead with a spectacular strike five minutes into the second half.
Up until that point only a lucky 27th minute deflection off the left shin of Gary Bollan had come near to producing a goal.
A Lee Hardy thunderbolt from a Peter MacDonald cut back had come close three minutes from half time.
The second half saw Saints move up a gear and Michael Moore's header in the 75th minute looked certain to count, but Darren Sheridan kicked the ball off the line to prevent a goal.
The Saints striker was not to be denied however, and he notched a late double in the last 10 minutes to set the seal on a much needed confidence boosting victory.
His first came in the 81st minute from a Ryan McCann cross which the striker headed low into the net from eight yards.
His own second and his side's third goal came four minutes from time when he received the ball from David Hannah before finding space to blast the ball past the exposed Clyde keeper and seal the victory.
