Super Saints powered their way to second spot after firing five past Hamilton with a display of deadly firepower that proved too much for their promotion rivals.

Four goals in a stirring first-half performance by Saints gave Accies no way back and allowed the Perth fans the rare privilege of sitting back to enjoy their team's best showing of the season so far.

Saints' opener came in the 27th minute after a superb one-two worked between Steve Milne and Jason Scotland left Scotland with an open sight of goal. The number 10 drove home his powerful shot with total confidence.

In the 36th minute a Darren Sheridan free-kick found Ryan Stevenson inside the penalty box and the midfielder drilled his angled shot past David McEwan from 10 yards.

A two-minute spell just before the break saw Paul Sheerin bag another brace to complement his two Saturday goals against Queen of the South.

His first came from a penalty after he was upended by Brown Ferguson when in a clear goal scoring position. Ferguson was fortunate not to be red carded for the offence as Sheerin composed himself to score.

Sheerin knocked in Saints' fourth from the tightest of angles after referee Murray played advantage when it looked like Milne had been fouled in the area.

Goran Stanic hammered home the fifth in what must be a candidate for goal of the season. The Macedonian evaded two tackles before scoring with a blistering 30-yard shot in the 72nd minute.

Of little consolation to Hamilton was Pat Keogh's headed goal in the 58th minute.
